P.S. I Love You [Blu-ray]

Buy a new outfit. Be a disco diva. Learn to fish. Take a chance. Travel. Laugh. Love. Sometimes all you need to start really living is a little shove in the right direction – and that’s just what Holly Kennedy gets. From the handsome, big-hearted love of her life. From a series of mysterious letters. And from gal pals who know that a friend in need is a friend in need of some laughs! Based on Cecelia Ahern’s joyful bestseller and boasting a top cast led by two-time Academy Award® winner* Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler (300), P.S. I Love You is your very own message full of fun, love, triumph and romance. Open it now. (P.S. You’ll love it!)

For those who believe true love lasts beyond this physical plane, P.S. I Love You is a jewel in the romantic-movie crown. With elements of Ghost, Heaven Can Wait, and My Life, the film is an unabashed valentine to the notion of lasting (everlasting?) love. Hilary Swank is Holly, a deeply happy lass married to the most impossibly adorable Irishman on the planet, Gerry (Gerard Butler). When an illness takes him from her, Holly spirals into depression. Then, as if from beyond the grave, communications, gifts, and remembrances from Gerry begin to appear–gestures he’d planned knowing his death was coming. The “communications” with her dead husband could threatened to keep Holly in past, yet they begin to pave a path into her future.

Swank, not a traditional romantic actress, is quite moving as Holly, whose grief and confusion is palpable. Butler will win new continents of fans, largely female, as the yummiest honey one could wish for. Special kudos to the supporting cast, including Lisa Kudrow as a Holly pal, and James Marsters and Kathy Bates, always breaths of fresh air onscreen. Under the sure hand of director-writer Richard LaGravenese, P.S. I Love You is touching, sad (have tissues on hand), and heartbreakingly lovely. –A.T. Hurley

Which usually I’m not into despite being a chick. However, I do like Butler. Be sure to watch the scene they cut of him at the travel agency. He’s hilarious. It made up for the crying I did every ten minutes during the movie. Oh year, you’ll need a box of tissues. And I’m not even the emotional type! The supporting cast is awesome, especially Kathy Bates. Harry Connick Jr. is adorable as always.

In each case the creationist statements are shown to be outrageously stupid by even the most rudimentary knowledge of science. In this episode it is shown the creationist organization The Discovery Institute and other creationists such as Kent Hovind (the convicted fraudster ‘Dr Dino’) share a common feature of willful dishonesty in that they are happy to misquote famous people to make it sound like they support creationism (quote mining). This dishonesty was particularly obvious in the dover vs kitzmiller trial where it was found that the ID proponents and creationists Bill Buckingham and Alan Bonsell put simply lied their asses off in court to attempt to disguise their true intent of teaching creationism in school. It will be available to buy sometime in a month, meanwhile, feel free to test out some of the beta features. They include: **Change Rank To Mod, Owner, Member, not main owner since this requires a password, (I am working on getting it to work with main owner) **Spam Chat with bots. (Sends in IDless guests and has them spam the chat. Very useful for raids.) **Powers Adder (works with checksum analysis, still beta…. working in it) **Xats and Days Adder (Also beta. Days adder works great.) **Auto Ban, Auto Kick, Auto Guest, Auto Member, and other bots. (it makes a bot appear in the chat and Ban everyone, make people member… etc. **Registered Name Changer (this is in very early beta, if you use it I’d suggest making a backup registered to test on) And other various things. I will continue updating this later on. I am no longer supporting this, if you want to download it still fine, it’s buggy with AS3 since this was intended for AS2 chat only. Batman Beyond - Season Two (DC Comics Classic Collection)

Collection of episodes of the animated adventures of the new Batman, Terry McGinnis and his old mentor and former Batman Bruce Wayne.
Genre: Children’s Video
Rating: NR
Release Date: 24-OCT-2006
Media Type: DVD

I have watched many animated series and nothing comes close to this. I am a music composer, producer and film student as well as a
multi media programmer and I have to say the studio work alone is well worth the purchase of this series.
The sound tracks and sound effects are perfectly done. This series was done very well and there has been nothing since to duplicate the quality of this series. The stories
are well written for the demographic this series is projected to. I’ve read other reviews and have to say some are right on the money while others over analyze and should stick
to reading statistics or counting beans. For me, being in the media creation business I am impressed with this series. The sound designing, animation and story writing are no easy task for
a specific demographic and this series does it very very well. This series is well produced, written and delivered as a finished product.. I have seen
nothing that even comes close to this series to this day in 2009. Either animation creators are lazy nowadays or this series was so great it
continues to crush the competition.

To sum it up, Great series, a must buy for any adult or child fan of batman.

The Brady Bunch - The Complete Fourth Season

Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 03/20/2007

The Bradys just keep on movin’, keep on groovin’, keep on doin’ it right. By season four the Brady Bunch crew had got the magical formula down and was churning out one groovy television classic after another. Not only is season four the best of the later seasons, including the memorable performance by the Brady band “The Silver Platters,” but the episodes included in this run almost read as a “Brady best-of” list. If there is a hall of fame for three part television episodes, this season’s opener would easily be among the top five. The “Bradys Abroad” formula seemed to be so successful after season four’s two-part opening trip to the Grand Canyon, the gang was able to pack it up and head to Hawaii. The Hawaii trip has it all; a family trip to the USS Arizona, Greg’s Surf contest, a family Luau, the mysterious tiki idol, and guest appearances by b-horror staple Vincent Price and Hawaiian idol Don Ho. After the tropical vacation it’s back to school. In order to fit in, Marcia the freshman signs up for every after-school activity on campus including the elitist “Boosters.” Greg’s love life gets complex when he discovers his girlfriend and sister are both in competition for the coveted head cheerleading spot, and he is the judge! Love strikes Marcia too, who falls in love with her dreamy dentist, only to be crushed by Jan’s news that he is married with children. Never one to rest on the rebound, Marcia lands a date with Doug the campus hero only to have her heart ripped out once again when the boys break her nose with an errant flying football. Then there’s Peter who has to play Benedict Arnold in the school play and is suddenly on the receiving end of his peers’ snide remarks calling him a traitor. And in the classic season finale Greg and Marcia battle it out to see who gets to move out of the kids’ bedroom and into their own space in the attic. Corny, yet cool, dated, yet timeless, vanilla as is comes, but still mesmerizing, The Brady Bunch – The Complete Fourth Season is the season that most people will identify as quintessential Brady. –Rob Bracco

Season four of “The Brady Bunch” is highly regarded as the greatest season of the series by Brady enthusiasts. The writing was impeccable with the creative team knowing each character and the stories were involving and inspired. This set features all 23 episodes uncut that originally aired on ABC in the 1972-1973 TV season. The opener that year is the most popular Brady episode, which is a three parter, that has the Bradys vacationing in beautiful Hawaii. None other than horror movie actor Vincent Price guest-stars and the family finds themselves embroiled in vodoo, curses, poison spiders, caves, surfing, and Don Ho. Another great episode is the “unofficial” Halloween episode titled “Fright Night”. The kids try to scare each other, but Alice is the one who ends up horrified. I watch this show every October 31st! “Goodbye, Alice, Hello” is a sad episode as Alice leaves the Bradys after a series of misunderstandings between her and the children. “Amateur Night” has the Brady kids singing on TV and this episode is known for the song “It’s A Sunshine Day”. Finally, “The Sunject Was Noses” has Marcia being hit in the nose by a football. A wonderful season that will be enjoyed by many generations to come!

Adventures in Babysitting

Adventures in Babysitting

Chris Parker (Elisabeth Shue) agrees to babysit after her “dream” date stands her up. Expecting a dull evening, Chris settles down with three kids for a night of TV … and boredom. But when her frantic friend Brenda calls and pleads to be rescued from the bus station in downtown Chicago, the evening soon explodes into an endless whirl of hair-raising adventures! Babysitter and kids leave their safe suburban surroundings and head for the heart of the big city, never imagining how terrifyingly funny their expedition will become.

Way before she grabbed an Oscar nomination for her searing performance as a world-weary prostitute in Leaving Las Vegas, Elisabeth Shue was known as one of the squeaky-clean actresses of the ’80s. Having made a splash in The Karate Kid and the ’60s-nostalgia TV series Call to Glory, Shue cemented her good-girl reputation with the charming but badly titled Adventures in Babysitting. Set in the John Hughes-style suburbs of Chicago, the titular adventures follow babysitter Chris (Shue), who agrees to watch the Anderson kids (Keith Coogan and Maia Brewton) when her boyfriend cancels their anniversary date. All is quiet on the home front until Chris is called upon to rescue her best friend (Penelope Ann Miller, also doing good-girl duty) from the seedy downtown bus station. She can’t leave the kids, and she can’t leave her friend alone in the big bad city, so she packs everyone in the station wagon and heads into Chicago. Screwball craziness begins as they encounter car thieves, knife-wielding gangs, gun-toting truck drivers, and, worst of all, Chris’s duplicitous boyfriend. It’s hardly mature entertainment, but Shue makes it work; when she wins over the audience at a blues club with her improv singing, you’ll be won over, too. In his directorial debut, Chris Columbus (who later went on to helm the sap-fests Mrs. Doubtfire and Home Alone) gently skewers the suburbia white-bread mindset of the main characters, and plays up the comedy over the schmaltz with a subtlety of which he now seems incapable; the near romance between Shue and Coogan is played lightly and adorably. Look for brief appearances by art-house faves Lolita Davidovich as a college party girl and Vincent D’Onofrio as an unlikely savior. –Mark Englehart

This is a great comedy. It is about the hardships (adventures) a teenaged girl encounters when she drives with the three minors she’s babysitting to downtown Chicago to pick up her best friend at the train station. The fast paced adventures or situations they run into keep the plot alive at all times. Really funny.

On the technical side, the DVD is a disaster. Although it is advertized with an aspect ratio of 1.85 it will not trigger (flag) modern TVs into the appropiate aspect ratio. I had to struggle with my 2009 50″ plasma Samsung to get a semi-decent viewing aspect ratio. Circles appeared as ovals. Inspecting the DVD control files I found that the material is identified as 4:3. Also, resolution is below par.

It’s a pity that such a good comedy wasn’t treated better by the studio.

A Summer Place

A Summer Place

Illicit romance take center stage when a wealthy family set off for a summer seaside vacation.

Think A Summer Place, and you’ll probably be humming Max Steiner’s wonderfully romantic instrumental theme song, a hand-holding hit in 1959. The movie itself is similarly irresistible, a colorful soap opera about the passions of a pair of dewy-eyed teens and their straying parents. At an island resort in Maine, Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue (the reigning teen idols of the day) fall hard for each other. What they don’t know is that her father (Richard Egan) and his mother (Dorothy McGuire), lovers 20 years earlier, have rekindled their affair. Both, inconveniently, have spouses, which is what makes this a soap opera. Lovers of camp will find much to savor in the incredible ’50s attitudes, and in the innocence of supervirgin Dee (”Johnny, have you been bad with girls?”). Yet the sincerity of writer-director Delmer Daves, cowriter of An Affair to Remember, comes shining through the corn; and the grown-up affair anticipates The Bridges of Madison County by 30 years. –Robert Horton

The title is very misleading. I saw this movie when I was a young girl and I didn’t really understand it then, now in my 40’s and seeing it from an adult’s perspective – it blew me away!

Interesting how candid this movie was, considering the time frame it was set in and the issues surrounding pre-marital sex or fornication back then, especially with the impetus on marriage for society’s sake. Moreover, what was more surprising was the embarrassment surrounding the young teens’ dilemma; their initial fear, decisions and responsibilities regarding pregnancy; education, immediately taking control of their lives, deciding to wed but being turned away by the Justice of Peace because they were underage was sad.

What’s more, is the sad turn of events regarding both their parents’ adulterous affairs, alcoholism, and the young girl’s mom completely disowning her because of her inappropriate actions, and the scandal that followed.

This movie had me enthralled and shocked at the girl’s mom who decides to have a doctor examine her daughter to see whether or not she had sex. I was aghast!

Fantastic acting, gripping story-line, amazing directing, and fantastic scenery to expose the lifestyles of the wealthy in the 50’s. This movie could have easily been about impoverished kids from dysfunctional families – identical theme: teenage pregnancy, fornication, adultery, alcoholism – different environment. A film like this back then would have met with loud gasps, and embarrassing feminine faintings. Every dirty story kept hushed – so I’m cheering loudly for this brave expose! Two thumbs up!!

Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue were absolutely the best characters for these roles.
This a MUST-SEE movie! Absolutely BRILLIANT!! FIVE stars!
